"How do you spread the word about your blog?
(e.g. Social Networking sites, Book Blog Directories, comments on other blogs...)"
I enter my giveaways on sites that list them, I twitter, I am a member of GoodReads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Paperback Swap and a few other literary pages. I try to blog, at the very least, once a week with a review. I join in things like the Blogger Hop, Follow Friday and Waiting on Wednesday... although not just to spread the word... I really like seeing the answers to the questions, or seeing what people are waiting for. I've also joined in several upcoming Blog Parties... I joined one book blog directory... but for the life of me, can't remember which one!!
What books have bitten you??
I am listing books that I often find my mind wondering back to:The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O'Shea, Summerland and Cavalier and Klay by Michael Chabon, Little Black Book by A.S. Byatt, George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones series, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, The Halloween Tree and Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, Animal Farm by George Orwell, The collected works of William Shakespeare, The collected works of Roald Dahl.
GIVEAWAY!
Also, please feel free to stop by (by clicking the giveaway picture below) and join in on my 100 Followers Coraline Giveaway... where winners will receive both the book, Coraline as well as a 6 inch Coraline doll!
thanks for hopping by my blog and for the suggestion on A S Byatt Little Black Book-I will check it out-I follow you on twitter now
ReplyDeleteHopping on by to say hi!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: http://jessica-agreatread.blogspot.com/2010/10/book-blogger-hop.html
I'll have to find you on Goodreads! I just got on there. Haven't quite gotten to the point of tweeting yet though LOL. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you - you can pick it up here! Congrats!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! The hop and the other weekly memes have been a fantastic way for me to meet people as well. I always like the Waiting on Wednesday, I've found so many great books and blogs that way. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for stopping by. I love that you leave thoughtful comments - it irks me when people leave spam-like comments, too. :]
ReplyDeleteAnd I just noticed that you listed the works of Shakespeare above, and that made me happy to see. Not many people seem to like Shakespeare, that I know of; it's always nice to find someone that does.
Also, have an awesome weekend!
Hi and thanks for stopping by my blog: Channeling Ricky. I am following back as promised.
ReplyDeleteLove the background of your blog!
Dropping a note back. I've got to try a giveaway, I've finally hit over 100 followers so now I don't have an excuse not to.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings side by side on your list :)
ReplyDeleteHi Heather--thanks for hopping over to The Book Frog. Here's my answer to the hop question: I use both Twitter (tweet all of my blog posts, and, from time to time, other book-related stuff that interests me) and Facebook (feel free to LIKE The Book Frog if you're so inclined; like on Twitter, I share my blog posts and other book-related stuff and nonsense, and also get to interact with my, um, fans ; )
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower now!
Becky
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeletePersonally I try to do a lot of memes and commenting for my networking, but I have twitter and stuff as well.
Brandi from Blkosiner’s Book Blog
You always have books that I have never heard of! THANK YOU! hey did you know Game of Thrones is getting made into a TV series? Going to have to start reading that series!
ReplyDeleteHop on by :D
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Your blog is so adorable! (I can't stop saying Little Squeed!)

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Coraline is a great book! (I already own it.)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to read more on your blog! Looks great!
Thanks for your wonderful quality comment! I liked your comment so much that you have jumped onto my favorite blogger list! I'll have to sub your blog if you have that option (haven't checked yet). I'm already a follower though I don't think I've visited you much. Or maybe you have a new design that's throwing me off ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso I think it's okay to leave a link back to your blog, especially when you have several and you want to direct them to the right one, but a lot of times its all in what you say in your comment. When you leave a quality comment then I really don't care. For memes it's definitely helpful because it saves time. I don't leave links but sometimes I just say the name of my blog because I have three blogs. But when I'm visiting book blogs I hope they know that the one that says book blog is the one they want ;) But I know sometimes when I look up people and they have several you can't tell by the name and I have to click through a few.
Okay, out of wind now...
I'm gonna look through and see what's been going on here lately though...
Hopping by to return the visit! Blog directories sound helpful--I need to look into that. :-) Sometimes I feel like my strategy is waving my arms and saying, "Look over here! My blog exists!"
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for visiting my blog! Good to know someone else gets paranoid when they loose followers, I take it so personal even though I try not to!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, I'm a new follower. Oh and look out for me on twitter :D
Have a lovely weekend!
Just hoppin' on by! <3
ReplyDeleteWow, your rating system is SUPER CUTE! XD Thank you for stopping by my blog and following; I've done the same. <3
My hop :3
Kristina
Thanks for stopping by The Paperback Princesses. Thought I'd return the favour. How about adding Dickens to that book list?
ReplyDeleteWhat turns me on with a book ?
ReplyDeleteThat is the question... :-)
Depends on how long the first page holds my interest :-) Heather.... you hold my interest all the time. :-) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You are also the only person I know that far south :-) ha ha h ah ah
Oooo cute blog! Here from the hop:)
ReplyDelete-Danna from http://friendlyreaderohyeah.blogspot.com/
I'm hoppin back atcha! Thanks for your comment! I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! When someone comments me, even if it's shallow, i still feel obligated to respond. If the comment is weak I usually just follow back and don't leave a comment, but if someone takes the time, I try to take the time to learn something new about them or their blog. I'm super excited about the "Waiting on Wednesday" memes. The blogosphere is so interactive! Ahhhh!Your rating system is so dang adorable! What are those little things called? I've never had any interest in Manga or Anime, but if the rights tory came along, I guess I could. that means I'll be looking for your reviews to see if I can get caught up in something else :)
ReplyDeleteThanks again!

Page Turners Gone Wild
Oh! DUH!!! They're little squids! I'm such a nerd! Haha! Have a fab weekend!
ReplyDeleteIn my mailbox at The Story Siren is another great way to spread the word. I don't always participate in that meme, but love reading the posts to see what everyone else got. The blog hop at Crazy for Books.com has helped me big time in getting followers. I'm still working on reader interaction, I wish I had a little more. It's a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.

Hello! Stopping by on the Hop! I'm really learning a lot from people's responses this week! I think Twitter is a really excellent tool for bloggers! What is a blog party though?? Sounds very intriguing!
ReplyDeleteReally like your blog so I'm a new follower :)
ReplyDeleteAlso your rating system is brilliant!
Happy HOP! I love the idea of a rating a step above 5. I find myself in the same situation. Every book I love I give a 5 because I can't stomach giving them less. I need to figure out some kind of balance :)
ReplyDeleteCome HOP by and visit
Hi, Heather! Just hopping by. :) I can't also remember the directories I joined. lol.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations with the 100+ followers! Coraline doll is cute!
have a nice weekend,

Musings of a Reader Happy
Hopping through. What's your favorite Roald Dahl book? Mine is Matilda. There's a new bio about Dahl out that's supposed to be very interesting. I guess he was a real jerk...or complex personality.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
Thanks for dropping by my hop. I signed up with Mr. Linky then promptly sat down to watch Project Runway and didn't get back to my actual post until after work Friday. Obviously that wasn't a good plan since I've only received one comment all day. Ugh. Oh well. Next week....
ReplyDeleteI know I already hopped you back, but I just wanted to stop by for a totally different reason today! Now, I tried to check everywhere to see whether or not you accepted blog awards, but I don't think I saw anything stating that you don't. In any case, I apologize if you don't accept them -- I must have missed it somewhere. I awarded you with the Versatile Blogger award at my blog, so if you get the chance, stop by and pick up your award! <3
ReplyDeleteStopping by from the hop! Book Blog Ning has been a great place to find fellow book bloggers and promote my blog. I've heard a lot of people have good luck with Twitter so I'm going to give that a try!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I'm just hopping back.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I read the author's book and if I really like it then I jump on their website and find out how they'd prefer bloggers to get in touch (most have an e-mail address) and e-mail them explaining about my book blog and that I loved their novel. Then I outright ask them if they'd be interested doing an interview for my blog. Sometimes I get responses, sometimes I don't.
I know as a writer, I'd be willing (and excited) to do interviews so I sort of look at it like that. Hope my answer helps! Have an awesome weekend!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! The Time Traveler's Wife....I'm almost done with it and love it! But I've had this feeling of "impending sad ending" for a while now and you said it still "haunts" you. LOL I hope I don't need tissues to finish this. I love a good sad love story but Henry reminds me so much of my BF that I feel much more emotionally connected to this book than I normally would!
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog! Now following you :) Hope you are having a great weekend :)
Psst.. there's an award for you at mt blog! Thanks for stopping by today :-)
ReplyDeletehttp://g-reads.blogspot.com/
So I still feel silly for not realizing your little blue guys were squids, and also for not realizing that they're not even, they're "squeeds!" It only took me long enough! Which is such a cute idea! Anyways, because your blog is so awesome (not to mention clear and accessible, easy to read, which I LOVE!) I'm passing on the Cherry On Top Award to you. Come back to my blog (not a pick-up line, I promise, I'm married;) and check it out :)

Hi
ReplyDeleteI'm following you back from the Hop. Love your blog design ... very cute.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I am an old follower. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your Coraline giveaway. The Coraline doll is so cute and would look great in my classroom. My students love the book and think it is so creepy.
I took a look through your blog and saw you reviewed Life as we Knew It, The Dead and Gone, etc. If you like apocalyptic lit. you should check out Australian author John Marsden. The first book in his series is called Tomorrow When the War Began. It is awesome.
I also love your rating system. The little squids are so cute. Have you ever given a book a golden squid?
Hi! Thanks for stopping by--love that your blog is "squeed" and your ratings are squids. Made me laugh when I saw it! Great blog--look forward to hearing more from you. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog...I like learning new things from other bloggers.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week!
Hi Heather thank you for stopping by my blog. I am a new follower :).
ReplyDeleteSome companies are easier then others to work with for ARC's. I do giveaway some of them after I read them on my blog. Others I keep or give to friends if I think they are going to like them. I use Bostic Communications. I need to contact some more publishers as well. I get the books pretty quickly and depending on how many I have to review it takes me about 2 weeks to read them and post the reviews.
I love your rating system too cute.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, I'm just hopping by, am a new follower ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! I agree it can be overwhelming all the networking. And I think as long as your not blogging thirty times a day (once a day seems sufficient!) then it's never too much!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower,
Rhiannon
Thanks for the visit! Great contest too! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteI agree that your rating system is adorable :)
PaperBack Swap is awesome. I love using it!
Stopping back for a visit......just hopping by...hope you are having fun in the hop.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know the answer about if you have ever given a golden squid out?
Stop by my blog if you like to see how I get the word out:

I hopping by. You have interesting stuffs here. Will be following you regularly.
ReplyDeleteSo how was George Orwell's Animal Farm? I am just now getting back around to answering some of the comments I thought you comment about leaving a quality commment stood out for me.
ReplyDeleteHi Heather,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. :) I'm already a follower and I think your blog design is so cute and unique. I think that a person's blog design reflects their personality to some degree.
Don't be afraid of facebook. What I did is I made a facebook page just for my blog and book buddies so my family isn't bombarded by book related stuff.
I hope you had a great weekend.
