This Wednesday I am psyched to be waiting for:

Gulp.
by Mary Roach

Release Date: April 1, 2013

Amazon synopsis:

The irresistible, ever-curious, and always best-selling Mary Roach returns with a new adventure to the invisible realm we carry around inside.
“America’s funniest science writer” (Washington Post) takes us down the hatch on an unforgettable tour. The alimentary canal is classic Mary Roach terrain: the questions explored in Gulp are as taboo, in their way, as the cadavers in Stiff and every bit as surreal as the universe of zero gravity explored in Packing for Mars. Why is crunchy food so appealing? Why is it so hard to find words for flavors and smells? Why doesn’t the stomach digest itself? How much can you eat before your stomach bursts? Can constipation kill you? Did it kill Elvis? In Gulp we meet scientists who tackle the questions no one else thinks of—or has the courage to ask. We go on location to a pet-food taste-test lab, a fecal transplant, and into a live stomach to observe the fate of a meal. With Roach at our side, we travel the world, meeting murderers and mad scientists, Eskimos and exorcists (who have occasionally administered holy water rectally), rabbis and terrorists—who, it turns out, for practical reasons do not conceal bombs in their digestive tracts. Like all of Roach’s books, Gulp is as much about human beings as it is about human bodies.

and am currently reading Spook...
and I have to say, so far, I'm in love with Roach's books.
They explore serious, often disturbing subject matter in a respectful,
yet humorous way.

And since this is the "Waiting On" entry to my blog,
I thought I'd throw in this link to George R. R. Martin's livejournal,
in which he gives an extensive list of books to read
while you wait for his next book, lol!

George R. R. Martin says CHECK THESE BOOKS OUT!

Waiting on Wednesday

This week, I'm choosing something a little different:

Skip•Beat! 29
Due out: October 2nd

Here's Amazon' synopsis of the issue:

Kyoko Mogami followed her true love Sho to Tokyo to support him while he made it big as an idol. But he's casting her out now that he's famous! Kyoko won't suffer in silence--she's going to get her sweet revenge by beating Sho in show biz!
On the way to the Dark Moon wrap party Kyoko bumps into her cast mate Kijima. He’s never paid her any attention before, but he heard that people called her beautiful when they saw her in her Natsu role. Kijima can’t contain his curiosity and buys Kyoko a total makeover for the party. But is his interest innocent, or does he have wicked plans in store?!

I *really* love this series. It's a shojo manga, but unlike many shojo manga, the lead character is strong, amazing and incredibly likable. She's no sniveling pansy!
I have read Skip Beat from the beginning, and have loved every minute of it. It mixes drama and comedy seamlessly... and NO, this is NOT A VAMPIRE COMIC!!!
(I know the cover illustration for volume 29 might have you thinking otherwise, but it's not)

What it is, though, is a good solid storyline that, for a shojo manga, has surprisingly little romance in it. It's more about self empowerment. I mean, are there hot guys? Yes, of course... but are they the *only* thing going on in the main character's life? No.

Waiting on Wednesday

 What am I waiting for?

THIS!

Days of Blood & Starlight
by Laini Taylor
Release Date: November 6th, 2012

I loved, and I mean, LOVED The Daughter of Smoke & Bone,
so I am 100% on board to pick up this sequel!!!

Here is the Goodreads blurb on it:
In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Karou must come to terms with who and what she is, and how far she’ll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, mysteries and secrets, new characters and old favorites, Days of Blood and Starlight brings the richness, color and intensity of the first book to a brand new canvas.

 Crossed
by Ally Condie
Publication Date: November 1st, 2011

This week I'm choosing Crossed by Ally Condie

I have to admit, I had a bit of a lukewarm reaction to Matched. For as much hype as it got, I was really expecting a lot more from it... but it was still an interesting enough read that I will give the second book a chance, and see if it's going to branch off into something fascinating and original.

Plus I have to admit, I'm absolutely sucked in by the covers. HUGE kudos to the designer of these.

This week I am waiting on:

Slice of Cherry
by Dia Reeves

This book looks devious, delicious and all around interesting!

Blurb:
Kit and Fancy Cordelle are sisters of the best kind: best friends, best confidantes, and best accomplices. The daughters of the infamous Bonesaw Killer, Kit and Fancy are used to feeling like outsiders, and that’s just the way they like it. But in Portero, where the weird and wild run rampant, the Cordelle sisters are hardly the oddest or most dangerous creatures around.
It’s no surprise when Kit and Fancy start to give in to their deepest desire—the desire to kill. What starts as a fascination with slicing open and stitching up quickly spirals into a gratifying murder spree. Of course, the sisters aren’t killing just anyone, only the people who truly deserve it. But the girls have learned from the mistakes of their father, and know that a shred of evidence could get them caught. So when Fancy stumbles upon a mysterious and invisible doorway to another world, she opens a door to endless possibilities….

Waiting On Wednesday

This week's Waiting on Wednesday?

The Warlock
by Michael Scott

As far as I can find, this book doesn't have a cover yet, so I posted the cover from the first book in the series!
Release Date: May 24, 2011

Before I first started reading this series I thought, "Oh great, something else profiting off the success of Harry Potter... blah"

I quickly realized this book offers something totally different from the Harry Potter series, and to think of it like that was wholly unfair. Michael Scott is an expert in faerie tales and mythologies, and you can tell that his background is rich in these topics when you read these books.

They play with being immortal, and with being at historical events and possible even being the cause of them.

This Wednesday I am waiting on...

Mastiff by Tamora Pierce

The cover I'm showing is actually the cover of the first book in the series, Terrier... because as far as I can find, Mastiff doesn't have cover art yet!
Beka Cooper is one of my all time favorite YA heroines! She is an amazingly strong, likable character and would be a wonderful role model for any young girl.
Not to mention that the supporting cast is AWESOME.

If you've never heard of these books, if you've never picked them up... DO IT NOW.

Also, stop by Tamora Pierce's website and check out what she's up to, what she reads, and what else she's done!!
